new to klei?

you don’t need every answer. just a place to start.

Independent studio bookings are for people who already know the basics of working with clay. Starting from scratch? A guided class will introduce you to the materials and equipment, so you can return to make at your own pace.

01 / step by step

your time in the studio

Four simple stages. Read them before your first visit, or come back to the part you need right now.

arrive & settle in

First, make a little space. On your table and in your mind.

  • Check your booking date, time and location: Grohova or Václavská.
  • Follow the arrival instructions in your booking. Keep your entry code private and do not share it.
  • Find your workspace, tools and labelled shelves. The layout is different at each studio.

If you are unsure, get in touch. We’re happy to point you in the right direction.

give your clay a shape

Slow down. Try things. Let your hands do the thinking.

  • Use the studio’s clay and glazes, which we have tested for our firings.
  • Start with an open clay packet and seal it carefully afterwards so the rest stays soft.
  • We share tools and workspaces. Take what you need and put it back clean.

Use only the studio’s clay and glazes. If you are unsure which material to choose, ask us.

label & store your piece

So we know whose little treasure is in our hands.

  • Mark the underside of every piece with the member ID from your account.
  • Wrap unfinished work to stop it drying out. Leave finished work unwrapped on the labelled drying shelf.
  • Stir glazes, do not dilute them and use a clean brush for each colour. Remove glaze from the base before firing.

Follow the shelf labels at your studio. Our team operates the kilns.

leave it ready for others

A clean table is a lovely welcome for the next person.

  • Keep the last 15 minutes of your booking for cleaning. Switch off the wheel before cleaning it.
  • Wash and return tools. Wipe tables and work surfaces with a damp sponge to avoid raising dust.
  • Put clay scraps and slip in the labelled recycling containers, keeping different clay types separate. Never put clay in the toilet.
  • Check your belongings and secure the door according to your studio’s leaving instructions.

Thank you for leaving the studio the way you like to find it.

02 / watch & learn

a little less wondering. a little more making.

03 / good to know

you might be wondering…

Can I come if I have never worked with clay?

Absolutely — start with a guided class. Independent studio bookings are for people who know the basics and can use the equipment safely.

How do I get into the studio?

Check the location and arrival instructions in your booking details. If your instructions or entry code are missing, email or call us. Never share your code publicly.

Can I bring my own clay or glazes?

Use only the clay and glazes available at the studio. Different materials need different firing temperatures, so please do not use your own. If you are unsure what to choose, get in touch.

What if my piece is not finished yet?

Mark it with your member ID, wrap it carefully and put it in the area for work in progress. Finished pieces should be left unwrapped on the appropriate drying shelf.

Who takes care of firing?

Our team operates the kilns. Label your piece and put it on the shelf for its stage. Follow the next steps and collection updates in your customer account and email notifications.

How can I change or cancel a booking?

Open your bookings in your skab.io customer account and select your visit. The system shows available changes, times and any additional price before you confirm.

still have a question? we’re here to help.

There’s room for every question in the studio. Drop us a line and arrive for your next visit with a clear head.
